Sadbhavana, or Sadbhavna Trust, was registered in 1990 by a group of social activists who had, for twenty years earlier, worked with the labouring poor of Mehrauli, Delhi. Since 2009 Sadbhavana Trust has been working with adolescent girls and women in slum areas across Old Lucknow. Apart from grassroot-level efforts, the organisation has also taken part in ground-level research and advocacy work as well as incubation of other NGOs.

Our Mission and Vision

Work for social transformation towards creating a more gender-just society.

Empower women and adolescent girls from socio-politically and socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds and enable them to challenge patriarchal norms, change their own life circumstances and those of their communities.

Develop innovative strategies that lie at the intersections of gender, technology and community action to build the leadership skills of young women.

Since 2009, our grassroots work has been centred around 70 low-income neighbourhoods across Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh where we train young girls and women from marginalised communities on feminist capacity- and leadership-building.

Our Approach

Sadbhavana follows a feminist bottom-up approach when it comes to decision-making related to working for communities, understanding their needs and addressing them. The time spent in the field conducting activities with the community is also used as an opportunity to identify the various issues and concerns that young girls and women encounter, either routinely and/or during crisis situations. These issues are collated by the field mobilisers and presented to the team. The team then collectively discusses the issues to find solutions or methods to combat the challenges. Their decision is then conveyed to the board for further suggestions. According to their queries and feedback, the actionplan is modified and finalised to be executed at the ground-level.
